More than 2,200 “party animals” joined the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) and event chairs Shannon and Terry Harvill on June 8 for Sunset at the Zoo “Safari,” the spectacular, annual 21-and-older annual fundraising gala. This year’s Sunset at the Zoo, presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions, supported the DZS’s wide array of education programs, which spark curiosity, understanding and respect for wildlife and wild places in learners of all ages.
Guests enjoyed an exquisite strolling supper and dessert reception featuring more than 45 of metro Detroit’s best restaurants and distributors. Sunset offered incredible live entertainment from The Jerry Ross Band and Tom Butwin, dancing under the stars, plus strolling performances by the Detroit Circus and Kuungana African Drum and Dance Company. Guests also had the chance to win “zoonique” prizes in the live and silent auctions, and try their luck with the ever-popular Sunset Keys.
The VIP Reception, sponsored by ITC Holdings Corp., kicked off the evening’s festivities in the African Grasslands. Later, guests strolled among the Detroit Zoo’s award-winning habitats at twilight and mingled around the Rackham Fountain and Events Pavilion.
Sunset at the Zoo is more than a great party – it raises funds critical for the Detroit Zoological Society’s mission of Celebrating and Saving Wildlife. This year’s event raised more than $575,000 in net revenue!
Thank you to all of the incredibly generous sponsors, restaurants, distributors and individuals who donated their time, talents and resources to make this year’s Sunset at the Zoo a success!
