Sunset at the Zoo “Asian Forest”
More than 2,200 “party animals” joined the Detroit Zoological Society and event chairs Shannon and Terry Harvill on June 7 for Sunset at the Zoo, our spectacular, 21-and-older annual fundraising gala. Themed “Asian Forest”, this year’s event, presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions, supported the major renovation and expansion of the Devereaux Tiger Forest.
Guests enjoyed an exquisite strolling supper and dessert reception featuring more than 45 of metro Detroit’s best restaurants and distributors. Sunset offered incredible live entertainment from The Jerry Ross Band and Tom Butwin, dancing under the stars, plus a strolling performance by the Detroit Circus. Guests also had the chance to win “zoonique” prizes in the live and silent auctions, and try their luck with the ever-popular Sunset Keys.
The VIP Reception, sponsored by ITC Holdings Corp., kicked off the evening’s festivities in the Asian Forest. Later, guests strolled among the Detroit Zoo’s award-winning habitats at twilight and mingled around the Rackham Fountain and Events Pavilion.
Sunset at the Zoo is more than a great party – it raises critical funds to support the Detroit Zoological Society and our mission of Celebrating and Saving Wildlife. This year’s event raised $575,000 in net revenue.
Thank you to all of the incredibly generous sponsors, restaurants, distributors and individuals who donated their time, talents and resources to make this year’s Sunset at the Zoo a success!
Please save the date! Next year’s Sunset at the Zoo will take place Friday, June 19, 2020.
